How Long Does Bridal Makeup Take in Perth? A Bride's Complete Guide

'How long does bridal makeup take?' is one of the first questions Perth brides ask once their wedding date is locked in — and it's a question that genuinely matters. Get the timing wrong and your wedding morning unravels. Get it right and the whole day flows.

At RP Artistry, we've delivered hundreds of weddings across Perth and Western Australia, and the answer is more nuanced than a single number. It depends on who's in the chair, how many people are getting ready, and what kind of look you've chosen. Below is the complete breakdown — from the bride to the bridesmaids to the full party — along with a worked example of how a Perth wedding morning actually runs.

How Long Does the Bride's Makeup Take?

For an RP Artistry bride, allow 75–90 minutes for the makeup application on the wedding morning.

That window covers everything: skincare prep, base application, eye work, lash application, lip, setting, and final adjustments under different lighting. We don't rush it. The bride's makeup is the most photographed face of the day, and it needs to perform from the first photograph at 11am to the final song after midnight — that requires layering and setting techniques that take more time than a standard makeup application.

You'll notice this is significantly longer than your everyday makeup — and that's intentional. A Perth wedding day demands long-wear performance that simply can't be rushed.

If you've already had your trial, the wedding morning runs slightly faster than the trial itself — by then we know your skin, your products, and your final look.  Read what to expect at a Perth bridal trial

How Long Does a Bridesmaid's Makeup Take?

Allow 30–40 minutes per bridesmaid.

Bridesmaid makeup is designed to feel cohesive with the bride's look while still being personal to each individual. Each bridesmaid gets a quick consultation in the chair — skin type, preferences, intensity — followed by a full application calibrated to her individual features.

The shorter timing reflects the streamlined nature of bridesmaid looks rather than any reduction in care or quality. If a bridesmaid wants individual lash application, allow an extra 5 minutes.

How Long for the Mother of the Bride?

Mother-of-the-bride makeup typically takes 30–45 minutes.

We always allow a little extra time for the consultation here — discussing skin concerns, preferences, and any sensitivities is a more personal conversation. Mature skin often benefits from more careful preparation work (priming, hydration, colour correction) which takes a few additional minutes.

Mothers of the bride are some of the most photographed faces of the day, and we approach their makeup with exactly the same level of care as the bride's. The result should make them feel exceptional — not like they were squeezed in.

How Long Does a Full Bridal Party Take? Calculate Your Total Time

Use the table below to estimate your total bridal party makeup time. These figures assume one artist working sequentially, with bridesmaids at 35 minutes and the bride at 90 minutes.

1 hr 30 min

Bride + 2 bridesmaids

~1 hr 45 min

Bride + 4 bridesmaids

Bride + 6 bridesmaids + mother of bride

~2 hr 45 min

Bride + 8 bridesmaids + 2 mothers

~6 hr 30 min

~3 hr 30 min

A working rule: one artist comfortably handles 4–5 faces in a standard 4-hour morning window. For parties beyond that, a second artist isn't a luxury — it's the difference between a relaxed morning and a stressful one.

For larger parties, RP Artistry's bridal party makeup service deploys multiple artists with a coordinated written morning timeline shared with you and your photographer in advance.

A Worked Example — Perth Wedding Morning Timeline

Here's how a real RP Artistry wedding morning runs for a 2pm ceremony in Perth, with a bride and 4 bridesmaids — using two artists working in parallel.

  • 9:00 am  —  Both artists arrive and set up their kits

  • 9:15 am  —  Artist 1 begins the bride's makeup. Artist 2 begins bridesmaid #1

  • 9:50 am  —  Bridesmaid #1 finished. Artist 2 starts bridesmaid #2

  • 10:25 am  —  Bridesmaid #2 finished. Artist 2 starts bridesmaid #3

  • 10:35 am  —  Bride's makeup complete (with lash application)

  • 11:00 am  —  Bridesmaid #3 finished. Artist 2 starts bridesmaid #4

  • 11:35 am  —  All makeup complete

  • 11:35 am – 12:30 pm  —  Buffer window: photographer arrival, family touch-ups, bride into dress

  • 12:30 pm  —  Wedding party departs for the venue

Notice the buffer time built in. We always finish early — never late.

5 Tips to Keep Your Perth Wedding Morning Running on Time

  1. Book the right number of artists for your party size. One artist for parties of up to 4 (bride + 3). Two artists for 5–8. Three for anything larger.

  2. Run hair and makeup simultaneously. Don't sequence them — your getting-ready space needs two chairs working in parallel.

  3. Eat breakfast before makeup starts. Once lipstick is on, eating becomes complicated.

  4. Build a 30-minute buffer between final makeup and ceremony departure. Things happen — toasts, family arrivals, dress emergencies. Give yourself the space.

  5. Trust your written timeline. RP Artistry provides a written morning schedule before every wedding day. Share it with your photographer and bridesmaids so everyone knows when they're needed.
